With its Franco-German founding history, Saarland University has had a European focus since its beginnings. Interdisciplinary European research is therefore one of its unique selling points. This is facilitated by the university’s geographical location in the immediate vicinity of France, Luxembourg and Belgium.
The focus on Europe is complemented by a distinctly international overall profile in research and teaching. The many cross-border degree courses and the high proportion of international students contribute to this, as do numerous active collaborations with universities and research institutes around the world.
With its involvement in the cross-border university area of the University of the Greater Region, Saarland University has developed a further profile feature with regard to its international orientation. The European focus is currently being further developed as part of the European Universities Initiative.
